Freedom! There are a few things as exhilarating as freedom. The ability to do what you hearts dictates. The opportunity to pursue what you believe will make you happy. At the end of chapter 3, and the first part of chapter 4, Paul has that topic in mind, freedom. Real freedom. The ability to do not only what you want, what brings you happiness, but to do what you really need… what you must do. Scripture says that, without God’s intervention, we are slave to the way things are done in this world.
But, now it is different.
9But now that you have come to know God, or rather(M) to be known by God,(N) how can you turn back again to(O) the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?
Since our salvation (adoption) is a work of God, of all the members in the Godhead, it is always effective. That’s the reason Paul is posting that question, at the end of verse 9. I believe it is a good question to evaluate our life, don’t you think?
