Starting in chapter 12, the book of Genesis will present the life of Abraham, who is one of the most important characters in the Bible. However, we most not miss the main point: Abraham is a key character because of what God did in his life.

Again, what should surprise us is not the fact the Abraham is called God’s friend several times in the Bible, but the fact that God befriended him in the first place! Chapter 12 is a very good example of this contrast. God talks directly to Abraham, giving him some of the most amazing promises you can imagine. We see Abraham’s response to the order of move out of Ur. So far, so good. But then, he ends up in Egypt, at a time of a tremendous famine, and what does he do? He lies! We is willing to put his own wife in risk, instead of trusting the Lord. This will not be the lat time Abraham goes the wrong way. However, throughout his life, God will show Himself faithful to His promise. That is what makes our God the God of Wonders.
