Is there a discouragement that sits on your shoulders like 50 pounds of luggage? Is there temptation that seems to have you in its grip like a vice? Does hope seem elusive? When we experience that it is often (always?) because we’ve lost sight of God’s grand narrative and are living in a small story.
The influence of the world, our flesh, and demonic forces are always trying to shrink our life story down to the immediate, visible, feelable things. And it’s easy to think that this is all there is… this interpersonal conflict, this bill, this health issue, this sense of loss.
But there is more… so much more. God’s word says those things are only sentences in the great story He is writing that includes 6 every one of His children.
Consider how the lyrics in this song and these scriptures point us to the real, lasting Story God is writing us into…
“Man of Sorrows” / “El varón de gran dolor”
Man of sorrows what a name for the Son of God who came, Ruined sinners to reclaim
He went on a difficult mission!
El rescate a Dios pagó, “¡Consumado es” declaró
He completed His rescue mission (James Bond and Jason Borne are flimsy echoes of the real Rescuer).
Cuando venga nuestro Rey, luego yo su faz veré
We will see Him again!

How about you?
What is a small story that has your mind and heart captive right now?
What does it do to that small story to know God is the Author of the Great Story of redemption and has you in it?
