Alex’s Commentary

I find John 21 to be a comforting passage, a down-to-earth demonstration of how the Gospel and its implications permeate daily life. It is a testament to His generous grace and compassionate revelation of His Beauty. Here we see, in a context familiar to Peter, how the Risen Christ comes after the Apostle’s heart, asking a penetrating and reveling question – not because the LORD is fishing for details, but because Peter needs this type of confrontation for his spiritual formation. Then, with familiarity, the Lord Jesus Christ affirms the Rock’s heart by calling him again to follow Him; there has been total reconciliation.

For Your Consideration

  • React to the phrase, “In the Gospel, we see the majestic invading the ordinary.”
  • How has the LORD met you in daily life?
  • What kind of questions does the LORD typically ask you regarding what is in your heart?
  • How should we live this life differently, knowing that even in our death, we can honor Him?
  • How have you witnessed the persistency of His love for you?
