Alex’s Commentary

In the middle of describing the glorious and sublime – spiritual gifts, speaking in tongues, the resurrection! – Paul provides an anchor with daily life: love. All these other supernatural phenomena are miraculous expressions of His Beauty. Still, the Apostle clarifies that the ability to love is what defines their awesomeness and that God’s love is the “more excellent way,” that it will never end, and that love is “the greatest of these.”

For Your Consideration

This week, we will need our journals.

  • Meditate on 1 Cor. 13:1-3. First, write down how this passage describes the way you serve others now. Then, write how it should change that service for His glory and the benefit of others.
  • Meditate on 1 Cor. 13:4-7. So then, describe in writing as many examples as possible when you experienced this kind of love from God to you.
