And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

Mark 14:12

I am surprised, really, to see here the disciples taking the initiative. They actually want to celebrate with Jesus this very important occasion. Later, after the Lord has informed them of the betrayal, each one of them ask, “Is it I?” This very intimate passage put in display two realities of our heart, two very basic needs: the need for fellowship with the transcendent, and our need for guidance. Only Jesus, who is God Himself, can satisfy these needs completely. But, how do you approach Him? The first step is taken when He allows us to see that His love, back then, now, and forever, is not an accident, an obligation, or some sort of commercial transaction. No, when the Lord answered the first question of the disciples, He gave instructions that are similar to the ones given before His Triumphal Entry. Meaning? He is showing His love “as it is written”, i.e. as He has always said He love His people.
