The service is from 10:09 to 11:54, with a five minutes countdown starting at 10:04, and the children remain with us until right after the Table of Fellowship. The dress code followed by most of our people is casual / business casual.
An important part in the fulfilment of our mission (To see, enjoy, and share the beauty of Jesus Christ in cultural diversity) is the preaching of God’s Word. Starting on March 2017, our congregation is embarking on a year-long series of sermons based on the Gospel according to Saint John.
Children
[dropcap3]D[/dropcap3]uring the sermon, Christos Community provides a safe, caring environment for children age 0-9 to learn about God. In addition, the leadership of the church seeks to equip parents to be the primary, consistent disciple-makers of their children throughout the week.
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (ESV)
We have five classrooms:
Alabanza de Pequeños: Birth through age 3 years of age
Trained volunteers from our congregation aim to create a safe, comforting environment by meeting physical needs, but also by praying with the babies and toddlers and loving them well! They also walk through a lesson from Sure Foundation by Desiring God (John Piper) curriculum. Parents receive a handout each week to be able to reinforce the concepts at home and in the car. Age-appropriate toys, books, and a diaper changing table are located here.
Discovery Zone: Preschoolers age 4-5 years old
The teaching team is made up of 3 dedicated volunteers from our congregation. Each Sunday, one of them walks the children through a lesson from Show Me Jesus, the Great Commission Publications curriculum. Parents receive a handout each week to be able to reinforce the concepts at home and in the car.
Guerreros de Cristo: Children age 6-7 years old
The teaching team is made up of 5 dedicated volunteers from our congregation. Each Sunday, one of them walks the children through a lesson from Desiring God (John Piper) curriculum. Parents receive a handout each week to be able to reinforce the concepts at home and in the car.
King’s Kids: Children age 8-10 years old
The teaching team is made up of 5 dedicated volunteers from our congregation. Each Sunday, one of them teaches the catechism using Great Commission Publications curriculum. Parents receive a handout each week to be able to reinforce the concepts at home and in the car.
Backstage Youth Fellowship: Children age 11-18 years old
Our assistant pastor leads a youth-oriented teaching time looking at the basic questions of following Christ. This occurs on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, during the sermon. Additionally, our pastor’s wife leads outside activities around once/month.
For the health and safety of all:
- Our ratio of children to adults is excellent.
- There is a formal check-in and check-out system for your child each Sunday.
- Toys and table tops are disinfected.
- First aid kit is on-site.
- Wellness policy: We ask that parents refrain from bringing a child to class when they are exhibiting signs of illness (like colored discharge from the nose, cough, body rash excluding diaper rash, eye infection), or if the child has had a fever, sore throat, vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours.
From the Children’s Ministry Coordinator:
“Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” Psalm 127:4-5 (NIV)
No doubt about it, Christos has no shortage of kids! We are incredibly thankful for the blessing they are, to our congregation and to each of our families. My prayer is that each one would place their faith in Christ & be on fire for Him! As our pastor reminds us: “Many people would say they are our future, but I personally believe that they are our present.”
Thank you for considering visiting or making Christos your home. As a mom myself, I know what it’s like to entrust a child to others, even if it’s only for an hour. You can rest assured that our lead volunteers Tammy Davis, Ludi Villasana, and Judith Rubio work hard to maintain a safe, caring environment for all the babies, toddlers, preschoolers, elementary-age children and the teens at Christos.
If you have questions, or if you have feedback that will help us serve the kids better, then I would love to connect with you on Sunday around the Table of Fellowship.
